The Best Roller Skates For Wide Feet
This one is for the wide or wide-ish feet skaters! We know the task of finding a feet friendly pair of roller skates can be a challenge. Here at the RollerFit Shop, we get questions asking what roller skates are best for wide feet all the time, so we thought we’d pop our go-to recommendations in one spot so you can compare the pairs.
What is considered a wide foot?
If you get a standard off the shelf shoe and it feels good in length but too snug or uncomfortable in the width, then you’ve probably got a wide or even an extra wide foot. In Women’s sizing a wide fit is a C or D width, which is approximately 100mm for a standard US size 8. In Men’s sizing a wide fit is an E width, which is approximately 99mm for a US size 8.
To do the best research on suitable roller skates for your feet you’ll want to know your foot width and length measurements. You can follow the guide in this blog to get your measurements as correct as possible and find out more about getting the right size skates for your feet.
What should you look for in roller skates when you have a wide foot?
When it comes to choosing roller skates for your wide feet you want to be looking for a skate boot with a wide toe box and overall shape, rather than a tapered toe which many models have. You still want to take into consideration things like suitable hardware for your skating style as well, particularly when comparing complete skate models.
The most important thing to remember is that you don’t want to be getting a complete skate or boot only model that is too long for your foot in order to accommodate your width. For adult skaters, going a half or one full size up can be okay as long as your foot isn’t sliding around in the boots. Ultimately, you should be aiming to have the snuggest fit in length as possible without your toes crunching or curling, a little breathing space for a little bit of toe wiggle in stiff boots is okay too. Think of the skate fitting more like a second sock rather than how most of us wear shoes. If your skates are too big in length, you will have less control over them when rolling.
Our fave complete roller skates for wide feet
When people with wide feet come into the RollerFit Shop, send us an email or DM, they are often looking for the Sure-Grip Boardwalk roller skates. We’re gonna say something controversial here, but we don’t think they are the best choice for skaters with wide feet, especially Aussie skaters who have more affordable and suitable options. Don’t get us wrong, this isn’t a diss on Sure-Grip, we love the brand and have been using their Fame model for our rental skates for over 10 years. So what do we recommend to our wide foot friends instead?

Chuffed Skates Wanderer
The Wanderer by Chuffed Skates is always our first recommendation for people with wide feet looking for a complete skate. They have a nice wide toe box, and the overall shape of the boot does not have a lot of tapering. The boots have a good amount of padding for comfort and the suede or microfibre outer provides enough give to allow the boot to mould to your foot. On top of this, the hardware fitted to the Wanderer is great for beginner-intermediate skaters. We recommend you select from the newer make of this roller skate model with the colour options: Caramel, Watermelon Red, Classic Blue, Burgundy, Black Suede or Vegan Pink.

Chuffed Skates Wanderer Plus
If you’re looking for something with a bit more stiffness and support in a complete roller skate then check out the Wanderer Plus. Made in collaboration with Hell on Quads from Colombia, this skate model has all the features you like from the standard Wanderer but with added stiffness and reinforcements to the boots. This can make the boots a nice intermediary option between the standard Wanderer and a custom or boot only model if you’re not too fussy about the hardware.

Moxi Roller Skates Rainbow Rider
If you’re vegan or are looking for the most affordable roller skate for your wide feet, take a look at the Rainbow Rider. These roller skates have generous sizing, starting nice and small for little but wide feet all the way up to a full adult size range. The boots are a wide shape all around to accommodate your foot. Keep in mind that these skates are vinyl so they will not have any stretch or give in common areas of pressure if your foot is extra wide.
Our fave roller skate boot only models for wide feet
If you have a particularly wide foot or are looking for something a bit more premium, then a boot only model to customise and curate your roller skate set up might be something you want to explore.

Chuffed Skates Pro Boots – Jade Hannah, Tia Pitman, Lanna Thornhill
Chuffed Skates have done it again! Thanks to their signature wider toe box shape this Aussie company is providing some awesome affordable boot only models that can be friendly to wide feet. The most recent Pro Boot models are the widest versions they have released, and the boot reinforcements and stiffness don’t compromise on internal space for your feet. Just keep in mind that these boots are very firm and designed to keep as much of that stiffness as possible so they will not have a lot of give over their lifetime. If you try them on and feel pressure across the width of your foot, then these models are probably not for you. The Chuffed Pro Boot models have a nice amount of internal padding for comfort, with the latest Lanna Thornhill boots being the most padded out. As a bonus, the shock absorbing innersoles that come with each of these boot models are a game changer for foot comfort.

Edea Roller Boots
The premium skating boot manufacturers from Italy, Edea, have recently released the Freedom range across their artistic roller boots. The Freedom range features a C width heel to keep you snug and locked in at the back as the boot tapers out to a D width at the ball of the foot and toe box. The Edea boots can even be stretched a bit further for extra wide feet. Keep in mind that Edea boots are very stiff artistic boots, but they have loads of internal padding for comfort and can be used for other skating styles.

Riedell Roller Boots
Riedell is a big name in roller skating, and for good reason. They’ve been around a long time and manufacture most of their skate models in house at their USA factories. This enables Riedell to offer a high level of customisation with their boot range. The most popular models at the moment are the 336 and 3200 boots. The 336 comes standard in black or white leather with a medium width fit but they can be customised at added cost for a wider fit and Riedell’s signature colorlab customisation. The 3200 is quickly becoming a fave with its standard D width fit and colorlab customisation included, and they can be customised further for an extra wide fit at an extra cost. Both of these models are stiff boots, but they are next level in terms of quality, support and comfort.
